Abstract Linear broadcasting services, with a scheduled programming, constitute paramount telecommunication service for today’s society. Although the existing technology is mature, current linear broadcast systems have serious limitations when providing to moving users or placed in areas complex orography and poor signal quality. To overcome these limitations, 3GPP 5G standard has included work item support multicast/broadcast services future Release 17. This paper investigates integration of point-to-point (unicast) communication cellular on extend services. relies use mobile edge computing (MEC) at base station (gNB) host dynamic adaptive streaming over HTTP (DASH) server that coordinated multicast transmission complement service. approach join reliability communications, dedicated resources each user, spectrum efficiency multi-cast where set share common resources. The cooperation between those unicast schemes allows whose coverage not good enough, complete flow through via MEC. benefits such been assessed simulations realistic scenario considers vehicle across sparsely populated region southern Spain. Results reveals throughput bitrate playback (reproduction rate) are greatly improved unicast/multicast enabled since number stalling events reduced significantly.
